Specification Review

CNC hydraulic press brake specification review

Resolve the configuration, cost boundary and acceptance decision for a CNC hydraulic press brake before selecting a supplier. A press brake tonnage calculator is a preliminary sizing aid. This site does not host an online calculator and does not treat a screening number as an engineering or compliance result. Die opening, punch geometry and localized tool load still require a supplier check against tooling and machine ratings.

Input checklist

  1. Input checklist: Design input

Record material grade and tensile strength, thickness, bend lengths, inside radii, finished drawing, complete bend sequence, preferred die opening, punch geometry, CNC axis count, hydraulic drive envelope, three-phase supply, footprint, quantity and destination. If an internal press brake tonnage calculator was used, keep the inputs: strength, thickness, bend length, die opening and bending method. Short or offset bends belong in the pack because total machine tonnage does not establish every localized tooling load. Positioning tolerance and crowning method should be named if angle repeatability is part of SAT.

  2. Supplier answer

The factory should verify die opening and punch geometry against the complete part, show how localized tool load and off-center bending are checked, and list which punch, die, clamping, backgauge axes and sheet-following equipment are included. Working pressure of the hydraulic pack should be stated with units. Connected load in kW and supply frequency in Hz should appear as installation data, not as a hidden assumption. FAT and SAT should use production-intent blanks, not an easier coupon.

  3. Open deviation

Typical open items: tooling quoted separately, front supports excluded, crowning method different from the RFQ, or SAT limited to a simple 90-degree bend. Machine price versus installed project cost is an industry dispute—separate tooling, shipping, utilities, installation and spare parts. Automation scope is the other: a CNC hydraulic press brake with a later robot is not the same SAT as a standalone machine. Press Brake Sourcing will not close those gaps with a discount percentage.
